RESIDENTIAL - Babytel VoIP Lines
( Unlimited calling )

The Canada & USA Unlimited VoIP plan now includes a second DID, anywhere in Canada or USA*, allowing users to be "local" in a secondary location.
The second DID can optionally be assigned a distinctive ring, so two people sharing the same phone will each have their own VoIP ring. Alternatively, for casual inbound fax use one DID can be dedicated to fax.
FOR THE HOME OFFICE
The Home Office ALL-IN VoIP plan in addition to the telephone line now includes a dedicated fax-line with its own DID. A fax-to-email option is included. In addition, this plan will now include free use of a softphone that can turn a user's PC or laptop into a second telephone - a great way to stay in touch while travelling avoiding cell or hotel rates.
An independent fax line is now available, with the new Fax plan, for users with the need for a dedicated fax line with sophisticated features such as fax-to-email as an alternative to a printout on the fax machine. Outbound fax is via the fax machine.
* A DID can be local line anywhere in Canada and the USA

What is VoIP?
VoIP is simply the service by which voice calls are transmitted over an Internet connection (DSL, T-1, or other high-speed solution). You can either use VoIP over your existing Internet access, or through one that your VoIP carrier provides to you.
Is VoIP reliable?
VoIP is 100% reliable when designed correctly. In fact, in some ways it is more reliable since it can be used from anywhere in the world (behind a high-speed Internet access line) and you have online tools available to help forward your calls during local service disruptions.

VoIP: (Voice over Internet Protocol)
A category of hardware and software that enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls. Voice data is sent in packets using rather than by traditional POTS circuits. One advantage of VoIP is that the telephone calls over the Internet do not incur a surcharge beyond what the user is paying for Internet access, much in the same way that the user doesn’t pay for sending individual e-mails over the Internet.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
is a general term for a family of transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over IP networks such as the Internet or other packet-switched networks. Other terms frequently encountered and synonymous with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, and broadband phone.
Internet telephony refers to communications services—voice, facsimile, and/or voice-messaging applications—that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The basic steps involved in originating an Internet telephone call are conversion of the analog voice signal to digital format and compression/translation of the signal into Internet protocol (IP) packets for transmission over the Internet; the process is reversed at the receiving end.
VoIP systems employ session control protocols to control the set-up and tear-down of calls as well as audio codecs which encode speech allowing transmission over an IP network as digital audio via an audio stream. Codec use is varied between different implementations of VoIP (and often a range of codecs are used); some implementations rely on narrowband and compressed speech, while others support high fidelity stereo codecs.
How To Save Money On Phone Calls
Get a VoIP Phone Line At Home
Most houses and small businesses are traditionally equipped with the PSTN phone service, also called landline, and many people, especially the elders, find some difficulty in drifting away from this paradigm. And then, it is better to keep things simple while making and receiving calls, free from dependencies like a PC. Getting a VoIP line at home keeps that simplicity during use, and even allows you to make use of existing traditional phone sets.
The cost of such VoIP service on average ranges from $10 to $25 a month, depending on the plan you choose. Different service providers tailor their service plans in a variety of ways, and you are sure to get a package that suits your needs and optimizes your cost. This kind of service requires first an Internet connection, preferrably a DSL line, with sufficient bandwidth. Secondly, a special device called an ATA (also called a phone adapter) has to sit between your phone set and the DSL Internet router. The phone adapter device is shipped to you with any new subscription, so don't worry about hardware-related hassles.
Many small businesses use that kind of VoIP service, and some service providers have very good service plans for small businesses in their packages. But if your business needs more than that (including PBX services and the rest), then consider deploying a full-fledged business VoIP system.
